What kind of events & workshops do we host?

The TRIO Scholars Program hosts events and workshops that seek to benefit the scholar’s university experience. This includes networking connections with faculty on campus, financial literary, academic wellness, professional development, personal wellness, and community support. “I am very grateful for the TRIO staff for offering me a warm and exciting opportunity to present at the First Generation Faculty Panel. I was able to have the guidance on developing professional and presentation skills, along with interacting with first generation faculty and the Dean of Division of Undergraduate Education. I also had a wonderful time working alongside with the TRIO Director and TRIO advisor for two consecutive summers to help co-facilitate workshops for the academic year and develop, as well as design, the TRIO Scholars Program website!”

“I went to the Credit Union/Credit Scores workshop last year and it was really helpful. I learned all about the benefits of credit unions, and I left with new knowledge on the subject of credit. I think it’s super important to learn all about this especially in college because it will help us all out in the future.”

“TRIO has served as a support system and has provided me with many resources, such as tutoring and workshops that have helped me succeed academically. One of the workshops that was helpful was the resume workshop where several staff looked over our resume and gave us tips on how to improve. I learned how to better format my resume as well as how to make things stand out.”

“During the past academic year, TRIO has played a huge role in encouraging me to pursue graduate school and exploring possible career routes after graduation. Through TRIO, I was able to go on graduate school trips to UCSD and SDSU, where we were given campus tours, program information, and tips on how to succeed. On these trips, we’re also given time to explore local attractions like Sea World and LACMA. Our trips with TRIO truly offer the most valuable experiences, not only focusing on academics but also different activities available. Thanks to TRIO I feel much more equipped to handle future career based decisions with ease.”
